The missing key to reversing aging?
Your skin isn't the only layer that ages. Underneath it sits a web of connective tissue called fascia...and how hydrated that fascia is may matter more to how "youthful" your face looks than any serum in your routine.

What fascia actually does
Fascia is the connective tissue that holds everything in your body together, from head to toe. When it's hydrated, your skin regenerates collagen more efficiently. When it's dehydrated, that's when you start to see sagging, deepened fine lines, puffiness & generally just faster signs of aging and duller looking skin.
AND guess what?! Fascia doesn't just influence our appearance, it also contributes to chronic pain because fascia is where the body tends to hold stress and unreleased tension. (But thats a whole other deep dive for another time/post).
The good news: fascia responds to touch. A consistent, simple gua sha practice is one of the most direct ways to keep it hydrated and mobile.

Why you start at the lymph nodes, not the face
Whenever you see gua sha routine videos online, you rarely see people massaging their shoulders, neck & chest before working on the face...
It might seem counterintuitive to work on your neck and shoulders before you touch your face, but this step is CRUCIAL in order to access your lymphatic system and your fascia (both of which are deeply interconnected).
Opening the major lymph nodes first clears the way for fluid to drain properly, which is what allows blood flow to reach the face and lets the tissue actually renew itself. Skip this step and you're working against a backed-up system.

The 3 moves to do before your routine
- Chest and neck, teeth up. Use the toothed edge of your gua sha in gentle strokes across the chest and up the neck. This opens the pathway fluid needs to drain through.
- Across the face, down the neck. Once the neck and chest are open, work across the face and finish by sweeping back down the neck, this is what actually moves fluid out rather than just pushing it around.
- Neck stretches, daily. How your face ages is influenced by tension held in the neck, it is the gateway to the face after all. A few minutes of gentle neck stretching each day improves how efficiently oxygen and nutrients reach your face, and how well excess fluid drains away.
Don't forget hydration from the inside
Gua sha helps move fluid, but the fluid itself needs to actually hydrate you, which isn't just a matter of drinking more water. Magnesium bicarbonate water gives your body a natural, absorbable form of magnesium along with other key electrolytes like potassium, sodium, and bicarbonates, which is what actually helps water hydrate you at a cellular level, rather than passing straight through.
Try it yourself
If you want to feel the difference this makes, the Amethyst Gua Sha is designed with a toothed edge specifically for this kind of lymphatic work, and MgBicarbH₂O is the easiest way to build mineral-rich hydration into your daily routine.
